About the event
Just like each year, this year too, the Belleville Policemen arranged the event ‘Shop with a Cop’ on Saturday morning (15th December, 2012). It is a special event organized by the Police Officer Geoffrey Wells and funded by Walmart. The principle objective of the event is to help elementary as well as middle school-aged kids spend a merrier Christmas by selecting various early Christmas gifts. This year, the cops have helped a total of 35 children, which are 10 more than the number of the previous year. All of these little ones were chosen by the school counselors of the corresponding schools depending upon the requirements of their families. They were given the exclusive opportunity to pick out as well as stock up on certain necessities as their Christmas gifts which they might not get otherwise.
A day for making wishes comes true
The day turned simply into a day for making wishes comes true. The unique Christmas gift ideas included the things that were needed and wanted by the kids. From purchasing beautiful clothing to dig into some luxuries, they were offered almost each and everything. Wells helped Will Payne, an 11-year-old Henry Raab Elementary School student, shop undershirts, MP3 player, watch, wallet, 12-inch bicycle and more. Patrolwoman Kristen Hoepfinger lent a hand to the 8-year-old, Abraham Lincoln Elementary School student Taylor Ornelas, for choosing Barbie toys, pink sweatshirt and so on. Detective Beth Ferry assisted Kayla Nadeu, a 10-year-old, Douglas Elementary School girl, select multicolored bed spread, matching pillow, zip-up hoodie etc.
In short, all those 35 kids were happy to get the things as per their wishes. They just loved the innovative Christmas gift ideas. The Belleville policemen were also more than happy to help them in their shopping.
