Christmas flowers are blooms that are most commonly used for decorating homes during the festive season. In North America Poinsettia, Christmas cactus, ivy, mistletoe holly, Christmas rose are some species of flowers used for Christmas decoration.
Poinsettia
The ancient Aztecs tribe of Mexico considered poinsettia symbol of purity. When Christianity became prominent in the country, people started using the flower for Christmas decoration. The blooming season of the Christmas flower coincides with the festive season.
Christmas rose
Christmas rose (Serissa) is known by some other names as well. Winter rose and Snow rose are other two names by which the rose is addressed. These flowers are use by people for decorating homes during festival in the USA and other North American countries.
Ivy
People believe that leaves of the plant signify eternity and resurrection. It is associated with the Greco-Roman god, Attic who is believed to have resurrected from the dead. Therefore it can be seen in many homes used as decoration item as well as a symbol.
Mistletoe
The plant is believed to have Pagan festival connection. It was used in winter celebration by Pagan even two hundred years ago before the birth of the Christ. The tradition merged with the Christmas celebration over the years.
